CBEM’s Critical Intervention Service provides professional crisis services and individualized support to people diagnosed with developmental disabilities. Every individual’s needs are unique and specific in critical situations. At CBEM, we aim to help our clients reach a state of safety and stability by addressing their individual needs, collaborating with their existing support systems and recognizing new support systems.
CBEM’s primary goal is to work closely with our clients as well as their circles of support for as long as necessary to achieve long-term stability. We provide preventative services, behavioral observation and training, critical situation support through a 24/7 hotline, and ongoing follow-up support.
CBEM believes in using positive programming and intensive on-site support to address the specific and unique needs of each individual. CBEM does not replace group homes, adult residential staff or program staff, family members, or any other individuals within the client’s life. Rather, the CIS collaborates with these existing support systems, allowing the individual to remain in their current living situation while working towards achieving stability and their highest potential.
Critical Intervention Service FAQs:
The Critical Intervention Service is an intensive short-term support system, geared towards achieving stability for those at risk of losing placement, being hospitalized for long periods of time, and/or other unforeseen circumstances. CBEM typically maintains an active case status for approximately 3 to 6 months, but will not conclude services until stability is achieved.
CBEM’s 24 hour hotline is a standard service offered to better manage crisis. The 24 hour crisis support system offers access to a Critical Intervention Specialist who is highly trained in de-escalating and stabilizing an immediate crisis. The CIS provides phone and in-person support through the crisis phase.
Critical Intervention Specialists or CIS are highly trained staff members that respond to critical situations through intensive intervention on-site or via phone. CIS are equipped to respond to critical situations and provide on-going support over the duration of the crisis to stabilize the client in the immediate and long term.
Our CIS team works with the client’s facility, staff, family and other individuals from the client’s support circle to ensure that they possess the necessary skills to effectively manage future crisis situations. We provide immediate crisis support and also teach how to prevent or manage antecedents that may lead to a crisis. In addition to immediate crisis response, CIS provide weekly in-person support to clients by implementing interventions, assessing future supports, and collaborating with existing supports.
CIS are field-based in the sense that they support the client in their own environment with their natural supports.
